Benefits of Membership

Membership Card: You can use your card for discount entitlements in places like Borders and Whitcoulls. We are also hoping to expand on this to include as many transport operators, retailers, attraction operators, etc., as we can.

Government Liaison: AHE is the first point of communication for education-related government departments. We have been invited into the offices to meet review officers and talk to them about what they might encounter when they come out to review home educators. And we are able to organise forum and chat sessions with various government departments. These are offered at special rates for AHE members.

Student Identification Card: As a privilege of membership and for a small additional fee, your child can apply for a bona fide photo ID card. Use it for public transport and cinema concessions, truancy officer approaches, etc. An intangible benefit is the sense of belonging to a wider a group that a child can feel when owning or carrying a card.

Library: Our collection of books and curricula samples is growing all the time; in fact we have just allocated a large part of our working budget to buying new library books. We are also planning to apply for a grant for new books and our librarian is bursting with good ideas for improving service to you. Our librarian is happy to post books out to members. And if you join AHE before 31 July you will receive ONE FREE DELIVERY & RETURN (up to three books of your choice), subject to availability and weighing up to 25kg within specified dimensions.

Quarterly Journal: Emailed to you with news, views, articles, contacts, ideas, etc Here is an example from Term 1 2009.

Online Networking:  We have a ‘Members Only Lounge” and a  Yahoo email list.

National Council Membership Discount: The National Council of Home Educators New Zealand Inc (NCHENZ) is the only democratic, nation-wide organisation for the homeschool community. AHE is a group member so your annual membership would be just $5 – a 50% discount.
