Home educators are a diverse group of people. We have a wide range of education philosophies and styles in the way we put home education into practice. Some of us are formal in our approach some are relaxed. Some follow school terms, some of us make our own timetable. Some choose home education for a season, and some choose it as a lifestyle. Some hold strong religious beliefs, some do not. Some want to be out and about, some of us want to stay at home. Some have just started looking at home educating, some of us have been on this road a while. Some have large families and some have small. Some have young children, some have teenagers.
You will find a variety of groups across Auckland catering to different needs. There are many local groups for local events and support; special interest groups catering for things like children’s special needs, age ranges or abilities; groups aimed at supporting parents and other groups for children’s activities.
There are also regional and national groups which will offer region-wide events and support of a different nature. Auckland Home Educators Inc aims to serve the many home educators across the whole of the Auckland region, joining all these different people together in a single home education community network, offering regional events and support. The “Members’ Lounge” pages on this website and the Yahoo email group both aim to support that region wide support.
We encourage you to join your local group as well as AHE, and we have endeavoured to list the groups within each area of Auckland below.
